SUMMER for the afternoon.
Hell yes.
The random warm day in New York City.
Not spring.
Not summer.
Just a brief, suspicious spike in temperature that tricks the entire city into believing winter is finally over.
Suddenly, coats are unzipped.
Sunglasses appear out of nowhere.
People start walking slower, like the sun itself granted permission to exist again.
And most importantly, the outfits change.
Shorts.
Bare ankles.
T-shirts that have been waiting months to see daylight.
For a few hours, the city dresses like summer arrived early.
Washington Square Park becomes the unofficial runway for this phenomenon.
People gather like it’s a small festival celebrating sunlight.
Everyone sitting on the steps, soaking it in, pretending it’s warmer than it actually is.
And the outfits start to change.
Not cautiously.
Confidently.
The park fills with people who all had the exact same idea at the exact same time.
Sit outside.
Wear something lighter.
Pretend the season has changed.
You see tank tops appearing again.
People holding iced drinks instead of coffee.
Someone reading a book like they’ve been waiting all winter to do exactly that.
For a moment, the city feels relaxed.
This was one of my favs.
Tank top.
Laptop.
Park bench office.
A bold decision considering we’re still technically in winter, but honestly? Sick.
The first warm day isn’t about accuracy after all,
it’s about optimism.
This was another good one.
The small adjustments,
Chefs kiss.
A long skirt instead of heavy pants.
Light jackets instead of coats.
Sleeves rolled up.
Everyone testing the boundaries of the weather like a science experiment.
“How much skin can I expose before I regret this?”
And then the shorts appear.
Not careful shorts.
Committed shorts.
Someone somewhere always decides today is the day and the rest of the city slowly follows.
It’s a declaration more than a practical choice.
Winter is over.
Or at least we’re pretending it is.

The first warm day also means one thing:
People start realizing their winter wardrobe is about to expire.
If you're rebuilding your warm-weather rotation, Uniqlo just dropped their spring AIRism essentials.
breathable tees, lightweight layers, and the kind of basics that survive an entire New York summer.

Anyways,
I participated too.
Black thermal I stole from a flea market.
Cut-off shorts I've been dying to wear.
Cowboy boots I PURCHASED from the flea market.
A slightly chaotic combination that only makes sense on a day like this.
The first warm days in New York aren’t about perfect outfits.
It’s about relief.
Relief that the air doesn’t hurt your face.
Relief that coats can stay open.
Relief that the city can finally feels alive again.
But of course,
by evening the temperature drops again.
The wind comes back.
The jackets return.
Reality settles in.
But for a few hours, New York dresses like summer arrived early.
And honestly?
Those are some of the best outfits of the year.
Argue if you want,
trust me bro my taste level is critical.
